Som Tam Salad with Papaya
This simple salad is considered by Thais to be their national dish. No wonder, as its simplicity embodies what's so characteristic of Thai cuisine: a fusion of flavors! In this case, it combines four: sweet, salty, sour, and spicy. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 medium ripe papaya, thinly sliced
- 1 medium melon, thinly sliced
- 8 cherry tomatoes, cut in half
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 package of arugula
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- pinch of salt
TIP: Instead of papaya, you can use kohlrabi, for example, to get a similar consistency
Salad dressing:
- 3 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons of coconut sugar
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 clove of garlic, sliced
- 2 tablespoons of roasted peanuts
- 1 small chili pepper, seedless, finely chopped
- A few coriander leaves
A method of preparing
- Grind all sauce ingredients in a mortar and pestle. Pulse until smooth. Set aside in the refrigerator.
- Place the chopped papaya in a bowl and pour a little of the sauce over it. Mix well until the papaya absorbs the sauce. Add the tomatoes, melon, onion, and arugula and mix gently.
- Pour the prepared dressing over the salad.
